Pupil Premium
The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England. It’s designed to help disadvantaged pupils of all abilities perform better, and close the gap between them and their peers.
It was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years. Looked after children and those of service personnel also attract funding. Details for eligibility for free school meals in Bradford can be found by following this link.
School Context
Co-op Academy Penny Oaks is a small one form entry school with 203 pupils (Autumn 2023 Census). We serve an area of significant deprivation - 97% of the school cohort live in the 30% most deprived areas of England. Our pupils come from a wide range of ethnic minority backgrounds (16 ethnic groups and 21 spoken languages - Autumn 2020 Census). There is a significant language barrier in school with 70% of the school cohort speaking English as an additional language and a large number of pupils enter school with delayed language and reading skills. Currently, the percentage of pupils eligible for Pupil Premium funding is 44%.
Sports Premium Funding
The vision from PE and Sports Premium is that all pupils should leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
The funding has been provided to ensure impact against the following OBJECTIVE:
To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of P.E and sport in primary schools. It is important to emphasise that the focus of spending must lead to long lasting impact against the vision that will live on well beyond the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding.
When reporting schools must include:
- how much P.E and sport premium funding you received for this academic year
- a full breakdown of how you've spent or will spend the funding this year
- the effect of the premium on pupils' PE and sport participation and attainment
- how you will make sure these improvements are sustainable
