Welcome to St Mary's & St Peter's Catholic Primary School
To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen a spectacular, colourful, vibrant field of flowers will fill the Tower of London’s moat. In spring 2022, over 20 million seeds will be sown in the moat from carefully designed seed mixes. From June to September, the flower display will erupt into new colours and patterns creating a dramatic and engaging experience. Designed to attract pollinators, ‘Superbloom’ will bring a spectacular natural beauty to the urban space and introduce a new biodiverse habitat for wildlife. It will celebrate the value of nature for our wellbeing.
The scheme has been designed by Historic Royal Palaces, working with landscape architects Grant Associates and University of Sheffield Professor of Planting Design, Nigel Dunnett – both of whom have extensive expertise in urban horticulture and landscape design. When the ‘Superbloom’ display ends in September 2022, the new natural landscape created to support it will remain in the moat as a permanent Jubilee legacy. https://youtu.be/5R4A7geO-CI
As one of only 50 Superbloom schools in the UK, St Mary’s and St Peter’s will receive the same seeds as those sewn in the moat which will change in synchronisation with those at the Tower of London. Our seeds will be planted in the large “70” that we have had cut into our hill. As a Superbloom school 30 children will also get the chance to visit the installation at the Tower of London and a VIP tour of the Tower.
At St Mary’s and St Peter’s we are very interested in the benefits of gardening on the mental health and well-being of our pupils. Part of being a Superbloom school is the legacy that the project leaves behind. Gardening will be fully integrated into our curriculum, we have 2 new gardens in school and a wonderful outside classroom with a mural designed and painted by the children. Our outside classroom also features a custom built greenhouse and living wall; it will be a wonderful place for our children to sit and enjoy a garden space.
We are very excited to be part of the Superbloom project, it is a great opportunity for our school community to be part of the national celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee.
Welcome to our school
Hello and welcome to St Mary's and St Peter's school website.
On this website we hope you will find everything you want and some extras. On here there are activities for the children to do and a chance for the adults to find out all about what we are doing in our school.
Our school prides itself on being an exciting and fun place for the children to come and learn.
God is at the centre of everything we do.
We look after everyone and celebrate how special we all are. Together we encourage children to be anything that they dream to be.
Our school is full of different people who follow God's path fairly, lovingly and put the needs of others first.
"I have come so that they may have life, and have it to the full" - (John 10.10)
Our School Ethos
At St Mary’s and St Peter’s we provide a welcoming, safe and happy school where everyone is respected and listened to. Our ambitious curriculum is designed to develop a love of learning and to deliver the best possible outcomes for all pupils; it is underpinned by 3 drivers: healthy lifestyles, experiences and aspirations.
We aim to provide our pupils with the lifelong learning skills that will enable them to succeed in the next stage of their education and into adulthood.
Above all we want our children to aspire to achieve as highly as possible in their adult life and to believe that anything is possible. We aim to provide a range of opportunities to nurture develop and stretch children’s interests such as music lessons in school, educational visits, after school clubs and work in our local community.
