Attendance/Absence
Children who attend 100% are 5 times more likely to work at, or above, the expected standard.
Coming to school every day allows your child to get the best possible education. We’ll work with you, to help your child attend as much as they can.
If you have any questions, please call us or pop in and speak to our team.
Our target is 96%
Absence through illness
If a child is unwell and will be staying at home, we need to be informed before 9.30 a.m. by:
phone: 0793 842 883
email: helen.spafford@coopacademies.co.uk
This is important, not only so we can record your child's absence, but in case there are a number of children off with the same illness. When your child comes back into school, they need to bring a note in with them.
We will contact you after 9.30 a.m. if no message of absence is left.
Time out of school for medical/dental appointments
If your child has an appointment, please bring them in to school before and after the appointment. Show the appointment card/letter to the receptionist at least 24 hours prior to the appointment.
If you can, arrange dental and doctor's appointments out of school hours.
Holidays
The law does not allow children to go on holiday during term time.
Any application for leave must be in exceptional circumstances and our Headteacher must permit this.
Parents may be fined for taking their child on holiday during term time, without consent from the school.
In cases where a child is out of school for more than 20 days, without permission, they could lose their school place. Likewise, if they don't return within 10 days of the agreed return date and don't have a valid reason.
Penalty Notices
Children's Services will issue a penalty notice to any parent who:
- takes their children out of school after an application for leave of absence has been refused by the school
- take their children out of school without first requesting permission from the school
- take their children out of school for longer than the number of days authorised by the school
Penalty Notice fines of £60 are issued per adult per child (e.g. father and mother taking 3 children out of school without permission will face a fine of £360).
Punctuality
The school doors will be open from 8.40 a.m. and the school day starts at 8.50 a.m. every day. If your child arrives after 8.50 a.m., they are late and will not be able to come into school via the school gates. You should make your way to the main school entrance with your child where a member of staff will greet you and mark your child’s attendance.
Please note that if your child arrives to school later than 9.30 a.m, we are required to mark them as ‘absent late’ (which is not an authorised absence) for that half day session.
If your child is regularly late, you will be invited to attend a meeting to discuss how punctuality can be improved.
