The Summer Reading Challenge is going digital this year, with the Silly Squad team ready to help children discover and read for fun, happiness and laughter. Children can join the Silly Squad on a new adventure by setting their own personal reading challenge to complete this summer. The new online platform will help to keep track of your books, reviews and the rewards you unlock along the way.

 

There will be loads of brilliant book suggestions and tips on how you can keep reading even while schools and libraries are closed. There’ll be heaps of silly activities, quizzes, videos, games and more to keep you entertained at home.

We are updating activities regularly try out as many as you can. Don't forget to log onto See Saw and Purple Mash to see what work your teacher has set for you.

BBC Bitesize Daily programmes will be available on any TV via the Red Button and online on any device on BBC iPlayer with teachers, experts and famous faces covering what each age group should be learning that day. There will be a timetable for each week starting Monday 20th April. All the lessons have been planned by teachers and cover the curriculum for each year group. Why not give them a try!

PE

Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child has a full P.E kit in school at all times. It is expected that all items are named and kept in a clearly named bag.

The children will need their swimming kits every Wednesday.

Library

Our class visits the library on a Friday so please make sure books are brought back to be changed.

Homework

The children will be given spellings to learn every Monday and will be tested on them the following Friday. Please support your child in learning their spellings through the week.

A homework grid relating to the topic being covered will be sent  home at the beginning of each half term. The children are expected to research and produce answers to at least 2 of the questions. They can answer the questions with as much creativity as they wish. They will be expected to share their work with the rest of the class.

Year 5 have been worked hard in the Autumn term. They especially enjoyed the work done for the trip to the Cow and Calf in Ilkley.

We had a great trip to the Science and Media museum as part of our work on Space.

Year 5 have had a busy start to this year. Art classes with Tony Bullock and practical lessons in maths and baking biscuits for the Mc Millan Coffee morning.
